I mentioned in my last blog post that we were going ice fishing and was going to be posting pics soon. Here they are, the kids had a blast, I had a blast (meaning I didn't freeze to death and my husband is so proud that we lasted for more than an hour, LOL).
The day before leaving, my husband decided to make us some unique fishing rods. He came up with this, and we painted them;
We were nice and cozy in our pop up ice hut, thanks to the portable heater;
Bobbing for smelts;
Our catch of the day;
These are saltwater smelts, fished in a saltwater river off the ocean in New-Brunswick. We used a line and hook with pieces of shrimp for bait, but most natives use a spear, sit in a darkened hut and spear them through the hole in the ice. I'd love to try this method one day!
The kids had a wonderful time, they each caught 4 and were proud as heck that dad and mom brought them fishing. We'll definitely be doing this again!
Wow that is alot of smelts! My dad would be totally jealous! He fishes them in the bay of chaleur and this year he is in Trinidad so can't go fishing!
I also love the fishing roads! I'll keep that idea in mind when dad brings the kids!

Definitely LMK if your dad makes fishing rods like these, it's so much fun for the kids to paint their own and fish with them!
